May 2022 Conference - Registration is OPEN!
Beyond COVID: A Focus on Sustainability, Technology and Opportunities
The BCAC is pleased to extend an invitation to our first post-COVID, in-person conference at the beautiful Inn at Laurel Point in Victoria, BC, from May 15th-17th, 2022.
The aviation industry has survived one of its toughest challenges yet with the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic. Virtually no sector escaped the human and financial stresses of the past two years with air traffic grinding to a halt. From this bleak picture emerges an industry rebounding with strength and passion to meet the demands of air travel. As all sectors resume operations, it's an opportune time to focus on the issues of today and the future. Please join us as our panelists and speakers explore current and future industry initiatives. See what's here today and what lies ahead!
Agenda Highlights
Join us for our exciting panel discussion, "Aviation and the Environment – The Urgent Challenge". Our distinguished guests, Dr. Andrew Weaver, Professor, Earth and Ocean Sciences, University of Victoria, Marcelo Garcia, Senior Director, InterVISTAS, and Ken Gallant, Vice-President Operations, Victoria International Airport, will discuss the facts on climate change, aviation's footprint on the environment, and what's ahead for airports and aircraft.
Conference attendees will have the pleasure of hearing Greg McDougall, CEO, Harbour Air, to tell the story of the world's first electric powered commercial De Havilland Beaver and its epic flight in 2019 at the Reception and Signature dinner on the evening of Monday, May 16th. We can't wait! Also, please enjoy this short video, taken by the BC Aviation Council's own Executive Director, Dave Frank, of this historic occasion.
We're sure you won't want to miss Danny Sitnam's talk about the opportunities and challenges of developing an eVTOL rotary wing aircraft for the commercial market. Danny is the President and CEO of Helijet International and, as the champion of one of the most successful all-weather, scheduled rotary wing passenger services in the world, Danny and his team are on the cusp of designing and building a viable e-powered helicopter for the future.
Known worldwide for its innovative and highly reliable specialty aircraft, the De Havilland stable of utility and commuter aircraft are a crown jewel in Canada's aviation and aerospace sectors. David Curtis and his team resumed the production of the Twin Otter and assumed ownership and production of all the De Havilland series aircraft. David is the (recently retired) President and CEO of Viking Air and the Executive Chair of Longview Aviation Capital. We're very excited to hear what David has to say about the present and future direction of Canada's aviation and aerospace industries at the Keynote Lunch on Tuesday, May 17th. See you there!

BCAC's March Hangar Hangout
(Virtual Only)
March 31st, 2022
Welcome to Hangar Hangout, BCAC’s monthly aviation and aerospace community networking initiative! Please join us online on Thursday, March 31, 2022, from 1900-2030 hrs for our fourteenth online get together. Here you’ll have an opportunity to connect and converse with fellow aviation enthusiasts and professionals in the BC aviation community.
Moving forward, our intention is to alternate between online and in-person events, but this month's Hangar Hangout will be online. During this event, we’ll break down into smaller rooms and engage in discussions about anything and everything aviation-related!
BCAC's goal is to create an inclusive, friendly, and inviting environment for everyone to meet new people, socialize, and connect in the “hangar” setting we’ve all been missing.
This event is free and open to all. Donations to BCAC's aviation and aerospace Scholarship Endowment Fund, the largest in Canada, are gratefully accepted. Tax receipts are issued for all personal donations.
We look forward to seeing you there!
Scholarship Winners 2020 and 2021
Normally we celebrate our amazing scholarship winners in person during our annual Silver Wings event at the Vancouver Trade and Convention Centre, however, Covid has put a big wrench in that endeavour. So instead, we our celebratIng our winners and some of their thoughts over four Frequent Flyer Special Editions. This is batch number two.
Kiegham Broney – Erissa Yong Memorial BCGA Bursary ($2000)
I am honored to be recognized as a deserving student for the Erissa Yong Memorial BCGA bursary. I have not always had the easiest time in my life, but I am determined to have a successful aviation career no matter what it takes. Without people like Erissa, I would not be the person I am today, and I would not be where I am today. You can help keep Erissa’s legacy alive by donating to the scholarship fund to help the next future pilot. Thanks, Erissa and BCGA.
Kelsey Harker - Onkarbir Singh Toor Memorial BCGA Scholarship ($1000)
I am so thankful to have be chosen as recipient of the Onkarbir Singh Toor memorial scholarship. Receiving this scholarship has minimized the financial burden of flight training and has allowed me to complete my PPL this fall. Additionally, I plan to use this scholarship towards continuing my flight training so that I can become a safe and competent pilot in our local skies! Next up: mountain check!
Emily Johner - 2021 HeliJet Rotary AME and IFR Training Scholarship ($3,500)
For as long as I can remember, I have looked up whenever an aircraft flew over me. I have always had a curiosity for how aircraft work and how they are maintained. That curiosity has since developed into an interest in aviation and a desire to learn more about how everything functions.
Kelly Vizjak - 2021 Barry and Jim Aviation Maintenance Graduate Scholarship ($3,500)
I always knew I wanted a job where I could work with my hands. After trying a couple different career choices that never felt "quite right", my cousin talked to me about how much she loved her aviation job in Kelowna. Her excitement inspired me to attend the AME-M program at BCIT, where I ended up falling in love with mechanical work.
